Rising from the tidal flats…

…in Normandy, Mont Saint-Michel appears to float in the mist on the horizon…Rising from the tidal flats off the coast of Normandy, Mont Saint-Michel stands as a beacon on the horizon and evokes awe at first sight of this magnificent monument floating on the sea! Steeped in history dating back more than 1,200 years, this island abbey was first consecrated in 706 and dedicated to Saint Michael, who according to legend, spoke to the Bishop Aubert of Avaranches and told him to “Build here and build high,” his monastery upon this craggy islet known then as Mont Tombe. Actually you can see the Archangel Saint Michael himself towering 560 feet above the England Channel from his lofty perch atop the abbey’s spire!
