…stand for the 6 days of creation

Days of Creation

The Old Testament opens with a magnificently confident statement: ‘In the beginning God created the heaven and the earth.‘…

Day 1, separate light from darkness, day from night. Day 2, make space among the encircling waters by pushing up the vault of the sky. Day 3, divide the material beneath this vault into earth and sea; and on the earth let there be vegetation. Day 4, attention returns to the vault of heaven; create sun and moon and stars. Day 5, it is time for creatures in water and air; create fishes and birds. Day 6, earth too must be populated; create land animals of all kinds, and man in God’s image to supervise the creatures.

“…Any sort of disturbance, whether man-made or elemental, is of immense interest to a goose, and geese watch the world through eyes that often seem capable of seeing things not visible to men. I have always envied a goose its look of deep, superior wisdom. I miss the cordiality of geese, the midnight cordiality. And they are the world’s best drinkers, forever at it.” E.B. White, The Points of My Compass, from the end of the Eye of Edna essay.

A bit of Irish humour for Day Six

Nuala,
What are you trying to do to us ? It isn’t that we don’t appreciate your generosity but the six geese have not alone nearly murdered the calling birds but they laid their eggs on top of the vet’s head from the pear-tree and his bill was £68 in cash ! My mother is munching 60 grains of Valium a day and talking to herself in a most alarming way. You must keep your feelings for me in check. Gobnait

Meanwhile downunder in Australia this is how it goes: “On the sixth day of Christmas, my true love gave to me, 6 lamingtons…” some-one’s getting a sweet tooth. Just for the record this is how I like my lamingtons – delicious and dainty. 😉

Wisdom of the Geese – a motivational message to live by.

This image is similar to my last vision of geese. Lesson learnt – they taught me to run…fast! 🙂
